Mrs. Heather Brown
I am so excited to be part of the family at MACS. From the first time I stepped foot on campus, I could tell it’s a special place. I’m a small town girl, born and raised in Midkiff (population 81 before I left for Texas Tech), which is about 40 miles South of Midland. I grew up with my entire family within a few miles of me my whole life, chasing younger cousins and lots of big dreams in fields of cotton and wildflowers. I’m happy to have stayed close to those West Texas roots, where I can help students chase their big dreams each day.
I am married to my college sweetheart, whom I met at Raiderland. We have one son, Jolton, who will graduate from Texas Tech in December with a B.S. in computer engineering. Wreck ‘Em! His girlfriend, Savanna, is completing her master’s degree there as well. Our long haired yellow labrador, Max, rounds out our family. We have a lot of fun together!
Aside from being a mom and aunt, there is nothing I love more than working with students in any capacity. I have taught in all grade levels K- 12, have been a school counselor in grades PK-8, have worked with gifted and talented students and teachers at all grade levels, and have been an assistant principal for high school aged students. I have loved each of those opportunities because of the students God placed in my path at each place. I am so glad He has called me to MACS and can’t wait to see the things we will all accomplish together!
As your child’s school counselor, my role is to promote the academic, social-emotional, and personal development of all students. I work closely with teachers, staff and families to help create a safe, supportive environment where every child can thrive. Some of the services I provide include:
- Classroom guidance lessons focused on topics like friendship, empathy, conflict resolution, and managing emotions
- Small group counseling for students who may benefit from extra support in areas like social skills, self-esteem, or coping with change
- Individual short-term counseling for students needing help with personal challenges
- Parent and teacher consultation to support student success at home and in the classroom
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns or think your child might benefit from speaking with me. Together, we can help make this a positive and memorable year for your child. Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you!
