Mrs. Self
Hello, MACS family! Please allow me to officially introduce myself. My name is Robin Self. I’ve been an educator for 18 beautiful years! As part of those years, I have been a teacher, a teacher trainer, an assistant principal, and a district English Language Arts and Reading coordinator. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Sul Ross State University and my Master’s degree from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
I am a wife and mother of four beautiful children. Our oldest child is currently a student and office manager for a cardiologist in Austin. Our second child is a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. She and her husband, also a sergeant in the Marine Corps, are stationed overseas. We are expecting our first tiny Marine to arrive in November 2022.
Our two youngest also attend Midland Academy Charter School. Our family enjoys watching movies, camping, fishing, and game nights. We just recently joined Scouts of America and are looking forward to learning much more. When there are quiet moments….I enjoy working on family genealogy (family history), crocheting, and learning how to make soap and candles.
Parents often ask, “What can I do to help my child at home?” To this, I have two answers:
One, treat your student’s education as one of THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of their life - encourage them, interact with them, and support their academic endeavors.
Two - READ. READ. READ. Countless academic studies have proven that reading is one of the most important activities any student can do. Ensure students set aside at least 20 minutes each day to read. After your student reads, ask them questions about what they have read.
I love MACS! Our teachers have high expectations of our students. We value instilling intrinsic motivation and encouraging responsibility. Our hope is to inspire our students to become life-long learners and to help build the next generation of great leaders.
